Why permanent makeup is a good idea after summer
Deel
The summer days are over, temperatures are dropping, and your skin can finally rest after weeks of sun, sea, and sweat. And honestly? This is precisely the moment I recommend my clients to take the plunge into permanent makeup. Waking up and looking polished immediately — without drawing eyebrows or trying to get eyeliner straight. Sounds good, right?
What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup — also known as semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation — is a cosmetic technique where pigment is applied to the top layers of the skin. The result: eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips that always look neat, without a daily makeup routine.
The treatment uses a fine needle to apply pigment to the skin, but less deeply than a traditional tattoo. As a result, the pigment fades over time — hence the term semi-permanent. Depending on your skin type and the treatment, the result lasts 2 to 5 years. To keep the color beautiful and fresh, I recommend a touch-up annually or every two years. Because over time, the color can become somewhat greyish — and you naturally want to avoid that.
Why is after summer the ideal time?
Summer is great, but for permanent makeup, it's not really the best season. After the treatment, you should avoid the sun as much as possible: intense sun exposure, sweating, and swimming can disrupt the healing process and cause the pigment to fade faster. After summer, the skin has calmed down, the sun is less intense, and you have plenty of room to recover quietly — ideal, in other words.
Moreover, you'll head into autumn and winter with a fresh, polished look — every day, without extra effort.
Two sessions for a perfect result
Permanent makeup always consists of two treatments. During the first session, we thoroughly discuss the treatment itself, color, and shape, and then I apply the pigment. After that, your skin needs time to heal and absorb the pigment — how quickly that happens varies from person to person. After 6 to 8 weeks, a touch-up follows, where I refine the result, reapply pigment, and perfectly match the color and shape to you.
Starting in September or October? Then your permanent makeup will be ready just in time for the holidays. Heading into the festive season radiant — without extra effort.
The benefits of permanent makeup
- Time-saving: No more daily routine for eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips.
- Waterproof and sweatproof: Perfect for active women or those who exercise a lot.
- Natural result: Performed by an experienced specialist, it looks subtle and customized.
- More self-confidence: You always look neat, even without makeup.
- Ideal for allergies: Are you allergic to certain makeup products? Then permanent makeup is a great solution.
- Long-lasting result: Enjoy your treatment for 2 to 5 years, depending on your skin type and the area.
The downsides — honest and transparent
- Recovery period: After the treatment, there is a healing period of 7 to 14 days. The color may temporarily appear more intense, slight swelling or redness may occur, and sometimes scabs or flakes form. Lip pigmentation can also cause a cold sore reaction. During the recovery period, the color sometimes seems to fade suddenly — but don't panic, it will return.
- Semi-permanent: The pigment fades over time (+/- 2-3 years) and requires periodic touch-ups to maintain the color.
- Customization is essential: Color and shape are carefully matched to your facial features. A good consultation beforehand is therefore indispensable.
- Not for everyone: Pregnant women, people with certain skin conditions, or those taking blood thinners may not be eligible.
What treatments are available?
Eyebrows — Powder Brows
The most requested treatment. Powder brows give a soft, powdered look that makes eyebrows fuller and more symmetrical — completely tailored to your face.
Permanent eyeliner
A subtle line along and between the lashes, or a fuller eyeliner — permanent eyeliner accentuates the eyes and makes them larger and more expressive. Ideal for those who struggle daily with a straight line.
Lip blush
Lip blush gives the lips a natural color and definition. It corrects asymmetry, makes the lips fuller, and gives a fresh, healthy complexion — all without lipstick.
What can you expect during the treatment?
Every treatment starts with an extensive consultation. We discuss your wishes, the desired color and shape, and together determine if the treatment is suitable for you. Then I apply a numbing cream to ensure everything is as comfortable as possible.
The treatment itself lasts, depending on the area, 1 to 2.5 hours. Sometimes a little longer — for example, if your skin needs more time to absorb the anesthetic, or if the pigment is more difficult to take. I always work customized: I don't use fixed stencils for eyebrows, because I want you to leave with your eyebrows — not someone else's.
Ready for a carefree autumn — and radiant holidays?
Permanent makeup is an investment in yourself — in time, self-confidence, and a polished appearance every day. After summer is the perfect time to take the plunge so you look your absolute best by the holidays.
